Monday News

We started our day with a shared read (The Birthday Cat). We worked on visualizing, questioning, and using the illustration for clues. We then moved right into our reading group time, where students worked on letter ID, letter sounds, sight words, ABC books (Tt page), handwriting, and listening. When groups were over, we went outside for a chilly, but fun recess. Once recess was over, we came inside and did a math lesson. The lesson focused on finding "one less" than the given number. We used different objects to find our answers. After math, we moved right into our morning message (focusing on the letter Tt, the /t/ sound, and our new sight words see and go), calendar (focusing on counting, place value, months of the year, and the date), and Daily News. We ended our morning with writing. After our mini lesson on thankfulness and reviewing opinions, we started our writing - I like my family because....

Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, our new science unit (weather conditions), a mentor text read (Goldilocks and the Three Bears), library, snack, show and share, quiet time, and free choice.
