Wednesday News

WOW! We had a fun-filled day!!

We started with our Happy Camper interview. After making the Happy Camper book, we met at the reading area to do our last read of the big book story Following The Rules to Play Soccer. During this whole group reading time, I modeled fluently reading, we practiced asking questions, and identified upper and lower case letters. We ended with an oral language transition; where students took turns telling a partner one rule to follow to play soccer.

After whole group reading, we went right into morning message, calendar (focusing on patterns and place value), and Daily News.

We went outside for a recess and then came back in for reading groups. During groups, we worked on letters, sounds, author/illustrator, the sight word "I," handwriting, and listening.

During writing time, we focused on writing our own opinions. The students worked hard to use their best guess spelling and even remembered to put the period at the end.

Math time was focused all around counting and the number eight.

Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, and another whole group reading lesson (focusing on author/illustrator, characters, and retelling the events in the story). The students earned their Hawk Award "Extra Recess," so we went outside and played for about ten minutes before we did quiet time, snack, and free choice centers.
