We had a great day together!
Our time started with the Happy Camper interview. We then went right into whole group reading instruction. Our focus during this session was to practice reading with expression, pay attention to capital letters in our reading, and the punctuation.
We then moved to morning message, calendar, and Daily News (focusing specifically on the skills we'd just learned during our whole group reading time). Once we were finished, we lined up and went outside for a sunny recess. Just a loving reminder, as the weather gets colder, please send your child with a sweatshirt or coat (we always go out for recess, weather permitting, even if it's cold).
When we came back inside, we went right into reading groups. During groups, we practiced letter ID, letter sounds, reading, identifying the main idea (what the story was mostly about), annotating text, handwriting, and listening.
After reading groups, we did a Go Noodle (Banana, Banana, Meatball) and then got ready for math. During math, we continued our hidden partner work (being sure to pay attention to the parts and to use our math words - plus and equals). I let the students do the last problem on their own and they all said, "That was easy-peasy!" They have worked so hard and paid attention so well...there is a reason they feel that way! So proud of them!
We then went to lunch, recess, and library. Just a little note about library, students will check out books on Tuesday and those books will be due back the following Monday.
Our afternoon was filled with science, another whole group reading lesson (letters and our decodable book), snack, show and share, 4th grade buddies, recess, quiet time, and free choice centers.
Important Information:
1. Tonight is the Mead High School Street Fair from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. All families/students attending feeder schools to MHS are invited for a fun evening of free food (principals will be serving the food), live music, pony rides, and more!
2. Please continue to have your child practice the Magic Five, read their Take Home Book, and play games as a family! Just a loving reminder that Take Home Books are due back on Thursday. Please be sure to mark whether your child's book is too hard, just right, or too easy. Our goal is to find their independent level - meaning, they can read it without support fluently and accurately.
3. Our first popcorn Friday will be this Friday, October 6th.
4. For planning purposes:
- NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13TH.
- HALF DAY OF SCHOOL, OCTOBER 18TH (CONFERENCES BEGIN)
