Monday News

What a fun day!!

We started with our Happy Camper interview and name book. We then met at the reading area for a whole group mini reading lesson. We read a new book - School Rules and focused on asking and answering questions, paying attention to punctuation, reading with expression, and rhyming words.

We then met at the calendar area for morning message, calendar, and Daily News. After Daily News, I introduced students to our letter of the week (Mm), the /m/ sound, and our sight word for the week (I).

We went outside for recess and the students had a blast running, playing tag, doing the monkey bars, and swinging together.

After recess, we came in for our reading groups; where students worked on letter ID, letter sounds, ABC books (Mm page), building, and listening.

When groups were over, we transitioned right into opinion writing. We played the game fact vs. opinion and then read the book The Pigeon Needs a Bath! We then gave our opinion - I think the pigeon needs a bath because he was dirty OR I think the pigeon didn't need a bath because he wasn't dirty. It was SO fun to listen to their opinions, reasoning, and to watch them write!

After writing, we lined up for lunch. Our afternoon was filled with recess, another whole group reading lesson (What Are Some Rules at School) - focusing on informational text, linking events, and retelling key ideas. We also did a little more phonics work with the letter Mm.

The students went to PE, has show and share, recess, PBIS reward assembly, and free choice centers.
