Our targets for the day were:
After going over our targets, we read The Mitten by Jan Brett. The students are very familiar with the story and loved reading it together. Once the story was over, we talked about what happened at the beginning, middle, and end. I also introduced the kiddos to the word summarizing. Once the students were back at their seats, we wrote about the story, again focusing on beginning, middle, and end. I was absolutely blown away at how confidently the students sounded out words and used their best guess spelling. After in-door recess, we had reading groups. During groups the students worked on initial sounds, blending, writing, sequencing, and listening. After groups, we focused on our math target. The students did a beautiful job looking at two groups and determining if they were equal (specifically, we focused on equal weight).
