We had a fantastic day!
After doing our morning work (focusing on the letter Ll, it's sound, and reading), we went right into our first "real" reading group rotation. During groups, students worked on letter ID, letter sounds, handwriting, memory, and listening. When groups were over, we went outside for a chilly recess.
When recess was over, we came inside to do our math lesson (sorting and numbers). We then went right into our Happy Camper interview, morning message (focusing on the letters/sounds for Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, and Ee), and calendar. We also did our very first Daily News (this is a newspaper our class published each week and will be sent via email every Thursday or Friday). We ended our morning with writing. We are continuing our work with opinion writing. Students are learning that an opinion is "what I think."
Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, library checkout, shared reading (focusing on rhyming), snack, show & share, stuffy/movie party (we watched a five minute science video that goes with our new unit and a Magic School Bus), afternoon recess, and free choice.
Important Information:
1. Now that we've been in a school for a few weeks, transportation tags are starting to fall off/not match what kiddos are doing at the end of the day. Will you please let me know if you need a new tag, if you'd like me to laminate one for you, or if you have any questions. I have a sub next week and want to be sure tags are on and correct.
2. NO SCHOOL - OCTOBER 11 (FRIDAY)
3. The on-line conference scheduler opened today and will close on Oct 10th. Elementary Conferences are Oct. 16-18 (Half-Day 10/16, No school on 10/17 & 10/18)
4. The volunteer calendar is up on the blog! If you are viewing from a devise other than a computer, you may need to scroll down to the very bottom of the page and click "View Web Version" and then you'll be able to see it. To scroll through the calendar, just simple place your curser/finger over the calendar and scroll. The entire year is listed. :)
5. If your child is having cold lunch and has any nut products in their lunch, please put a note on the outside of their lunch box so we can help direct them to the appropriate table. We know this is an extra step, but it is SO important to help keep all kids safe. Please also tell your child if they have nuts and if they're having cold or hot lunch.
