Monday News

We had a wonderful day!

We started with our morning work (focusing on writing numbers, counting, and patterns). We then transitioned to morning message (working on our new letter Hh, the /h/ sound, and our new sight words - are and his). During calendar we focused on the months, place value, and graphing. When we were done with calendar, we transitioned to the reading area for our Daily News time.

We were able to go outside for recess and, although it was chilly, we had a blast!

Once recess was over, we went right into reading groups. During groups, we focused on our new letter (Hh), sorting according to initial sounds, our new unit topic (Living in a Neighborhood), ABC books (Hh page), sight word practice, and annotating text.

We also continued our work with informational writing. Because our letter is Hh this week, we started studying hippos and will be writing about them all week. We read the book Hippos Are Huge and watched a short clip about hippos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vii-jpTjDg). Tomorrow we will begin compiling all our newly learned facts and writing our informational paper.

Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, math (comparing the weight of two objects), alpha tales (a book about the letter Hh and the /h/ sound), picture guess (all pictures began with the /h/ sound), PE, snack, show and share, quiet time, and free choice centers.
