We started our day with morning work, focusing on letters sounds, sight words, and initial sounds. We then met at the reading area for our shared reading time. The text we read was called Plants in a Greenhouse and we focused on determining text importance, identifying punctuation, and reading with expression. After shared reading, we moved to our morning message and calendar time. Our focus during this time was our new sight words (is, at, a), our new letter (Ff), place value, counting, and the date. We then transitioned to Daily News, where we focused on capital at the beginning of the sentence, spacing, and punctuation.
We were able to go outside for recess. It was chilly, but the kiddos had a great time playing together.
After recess, we went right into reading groups; where the kiddos worked on letter ID, letter sounds, blending, ABC books, handwriting, and listening.
Once groups were over, we moved into our writing time. We played a game (fact vs. opinion) and then wrote our opinion (Which pet would you like to have - monkey or lion).
Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, math (2D and 3D shapes), extended read (focusing on informational text features, linking ideas, and retelling key ideas and details), PE, snack, show and share, quiet time, and free choice centers.
