What a great day!
We started our time together with morning work (focusing on matching capitals/lowercase, rhyming, and sight words). We then transitioned to our shared reading time, where the kiddos worked on visualizing story events, identifying capital and lowercase letters, and reading a question with fluent expression. When shared reading was over, we went right into our morning message, calendar, and Daily News routine. Today we focused on reading graphs, sight words, and counting.
We had a delightful time outside in the snow for recess. Thank you for sending your kiddos is their warm snow gear! If you have time, please start teaching your child how to put on their snow gear and in what order (for example, zip your coat before you put on your gloves). This will help us get in and out of our gear so much faster (especially since we have to do it three times a day).
After recess, we went right into reading groups; where the kiddos worked on letter ID, letter sounds, sight words, reading, ABC books, handwriting, and listening.
During writing, we continued to work on opinion writing. The students are doing a beautiful job tapping out and writing the sounds they hear! Just a loving reminder, we say the Qq sound as "coo," the Ww sound as "woo," and the Yy sound as "ye." I made a really great (ha ha) video of how to say the sounds (shot by my 2nd grade daughter). If you would like me to send it to you, please just let me know.
Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, extended read (focusing on retelling key story events), PE, snack, show and share, quiet time, and free choice centers.
