Today in Camp Kindergarten we held our own election.
We started by reading the book One Vote, Two Votes, I Vote, You Vote by Bonnie Worth.
We talked about the voting process, our responsibilities as a voter, and the history of voting. The students then held their own election - voting for their favorite animal. Students privately filled out their own ballots and wrote their opinion as to who they thought should win. Then we tallied the votes and found our winner.
The AM class voted for the dog (dog won by four points) and the PM class voted for the cat (this was a close race and cat only won by 1 point)! :) After the vote, we talked about being okay with the decision because we are all a team and it was a fair vote.
The kinders were able to get outside for a glorious recess in the sun! We also did calendar, Daily News, and reading groups today. During reading groups we reviewed the sound /s/, /a/, /m/, and /p/. We also read our leveled readers, made a book about elections, practiced handwriting, and listened to Duck on a Bike.
