Thursday News

We had a packed day!
We started with a Candy Corn Counting activity. The students had to count the dots and then paste the number next to the dots. We then transitioned to our targets for the day {I finally made some target crowns for the kiddos to wear, so no more pinning on clothes - phew}! The targets for our day were:

Target #1: I can count how many in a ten frame.
Target #2: I can write my opinion.
Target #3: I can take one away.

After giving our target experts their crowns, we found out who got to take the Happy Camper bear home and did our calendar routine. We then transitioned to Daily News, working specifically on capitals, spacing, and ending punctuation. Due to rain, we had another in door recess today. The kiddos did a great job playing and sharing with others. Once recess was over, we wrote an opinion paper together {Which fruit do you like better - apples or bananas?}. As a class, we chose an apple and then wrote our opinion and reason together (Target #2). We focused on using our best guess spelling, spacing, and using the entire line before going to the next line on the paper. After writing, we transitioned to reading groups; where the kiddos worked on the /s/ sound, picture sorting by the initial sound, counting in ten frames (Target #1), reading using our magic reading finger, and listening (Shark in the Dark). We ended our day with a math lesson on taking one away (Target #3). The students did a wonderful job and caught on very quickly!
