What a great day!
We started our time together with some fine motor work (play-doh building). We then transitioned to our Target Expert, calendar, and morning message time. The targets we focused on today were:
Target #1. I can make the letter Ss sound /s/.
Target #2. I can make a math story.
Target #3. I can listen to a story and answer questions about it.
Next, we moved to the reading rug, where the kiddos worked on our sight word for the week (like) and practiced our word from last week (the). We then moved our bodies to face the couch and I officially introduced the letter for the week using the Alpha Tales story, Seal's Silly Sandwich. After cementing the /s/ sound in our minds, the students tried to guess the different pictures I had that started with the /s/ sound (soup, seal, six, sock, sun, and sink) (Target #1). Lastly, the kinders worked together to guess what was in my ABC Question can (it was a sticky note). :)
We were able to go outside for a pretty warm (for fall) recess. Once recess was over, we came inside and practiced telling math stories. The students did a good job finding the hidden partners first and then deciding what they wanted the story to be about. They practiced telling their math story to their partners and a few kiddos also got to share with the class (Target #2). Lastly, the students listened to the story What Do You Like and answered questions at the end (Target #3). We did focus quite a bit on non-fiction (real) vs. fiction (pretend).
Both class were also able to do a little free choice as well.
Important Information:
1. Homework folders came home today (10-24). Please note, a couple AM kiddos didn't have their folders and homework wasn't sent home. I'll be sure they get the homework tomorrow.
2. Take Home Books were exchanged today (10-24).
3. Our classroom is set up for RAZ Kids (an online book resource from A-Z). It is the same company that does our take home book and you can find your child's level and choose from a number of titles at their level. Your child's username and password came home today.
4. Picture Re-takes are Thursday, 10-27.
5. Our Halloween Party is this Friday, 10-28. The AM class will have their party from 9:40-10:40am and the PM class will have their party from 2:10-3:10pm. Kinders wear their costumes to school. Just a loving reminder that the costumes can't have blood, guts, and/or weapons.
6. Cookie Dough pick up is Friday, 11-4.
7. Please be sure to mark December 8th on your calendar! The kinders will be taking their ALL DAY field trip to downtown. I have quite a few volunteers, however, we can always take more! :) If you haven't already, please just let me know if you'd like to join!
