Happy Monday!
We had a day filled with lots of learning!
Our targets today were:
Target #1: I can write the numbers 1-5 in order.
Target #2: I can give my opinion (and I know what opinion means).
Target #3: I can say the Mm sound (/m/).
We started our day by going over the learning targets and interviewing the Happy Camper. After making the Happy Camper name book, we re-read Pete the Cat and practiced giving our opinion of the best part (Target #2). We then transitioned to calendar and Daily News, focusing specifically on our new sight word (we) and place value. Because we are now teaching each letter for at least a week, we read our Alpha Tales (Mm) book, did our picture guess (guessing all my hidden pictures that start with the /m/ sound), and trying to guess what Mm item is in my question can (Target #3). We then went outside for a chilly, but fun, recess. Once recess was over, we came in a did a big concept development on how to split apart a whole number into parts. We used math manipulatives to build towers 4 and 5 blocks high. We practiced breaking them into parts and then saying what we had using math language (e.g. 2 and 2 make 4). In addition, we practiced ordering numbers 1-5 and writing them (Target #1). Because the kiddos were so focused, we finished everything a few minutes early and were able to have some free choice (also known as social skills practice). :)
Important Information:
1. I apologize, I had the cookie dough paperwork due date wrong. The envelopes were due today; however, you can still turn them in tomorrow (that's what my daughter will be doing). :)
2. Homework folders came home today (10-3).
Please have your child do their Monday sentence.
Again, here are the "very hard to follow, but super important for your kiddo's growth" homework rules:
#1- Do not spell anything for them,
#2 Do not write anything for them,
#3 Do not tell them they wrote something incorrectly.
You literally smile and say good job! I am so proud of you! That is perfect!
3. Take Home Books were exchanged and sent home today (10-3).
Make sure your kiddo reads their take home book at least once to you. Remember, it's very normal and developmentally appropriate for kiddos to use picture clues. Please do not cover the pictures in your child's book.
4. If you haven't yet, please return a conference form for your kindergarten student. Every teacher needs one for/child.
5. In the upcoming months, there are a few "non-student" days (aka, teachers have meetings and the kiddos get the day off) to be aware of. The first is 10-14. Please see the district calendar for other "non-student" days and events.
6. If you can join us for the December 8th ALL DAY field trip downtown, please email me. Please see the "More Info For Dec. Field Trip" email for details.
7. Donuts with Dad is coming up! Please join us on October 6th from 8-9:00am in the Prairie View Cafeteria. We only have one Donut with Dad time, so even if your child attends PM kindergarten, you can still bring them for the event and then just take them home with you at 9:00AM.
