Our day started at the calendar rug, learning our targets for the day. We again had three Target Experts - each kiddo was responsible for one of the targets below:
Target #1: I can write the letters Ee and Ff.
Target #2: I can sort by counting.
Target #3: I can read the sight word, I.
After reviewing our targets, we learned all about the letters Ee and Ff, their sound, and how to write them (Target #1). We then conducted our Happy Camper interview, and did calendar. At calendar, we talked a lot about the months of the year and how each month gets a number (e.g. January is 1, February is 2, etc.). We also focused on place value and, specifically, the "ones" column. Once we were done at calendar, we transitioned to Daily News. After our Daily News sentence was complete, we went outside for recess. The kiddos had a great time outside with their friends and it was very fun to watch all their positive interactions! Once we were back inside, we did our math lesson, focusing on sorting according to the number of items in each group (Target #2). The students did a wonderful job counting, sorting, and explaining their thinking. We finished our day with the book, I. Before reading the book, we talked a lot about how to read a book (also known as concepts of print). I then read the book first, then we went back through and read it together (Target #3).
Important Information:
1. Homework folders are due tomorrow (the kinders did NOT have homework this week, we were just practicing having our folder).
2. The students have library, music, and P.E. tomorrow. Please make sure your child has shoes they can run in (no flip flops, please).
3. If you haven't yet, please return all school papers and your child's first day question.
4. Please make sure your child has their transportation tag pinned to their backpack and that it matches what they are doing for the day!
5. In the upcoming months, there are a few "non student" days (aka, teachers have meetings and the kiddos get the day off) to be aware of. The first is October 14th. Please see the district calendar for other "non student" days and events.
6. Picture Day is coming up! Dorian will be here on Friday (9/23) to take individual and class pictures. Picture order forms will be coming home soon!
