The kiddos had a great day!
We started our day together with our targets.
Target #1: I can retell a story.
Target #2: I can write the letters Qq and Rr.
Target #3: I can write the numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3.
We read the story Jazz Baby and then worked together to retell the events in the story (Target #1). We then did our Happy Camper Interview and name book together. After everyone was done, we did our calendar and Daily News routine. We were then able to go outside for a sunny recess. It almost felt like summertime outside. :) When we came back in, we listened to Humpty Dumpty, working together to identify rhyming words. The students even worked hard to come up with their own rhymes. We then transitioned back to our seats to practice writing the letters Qq and Rr (Target #2). I'm so impressed with the students and how well they are writing. Lastly, we did our math lesson; working on counting how many and then writing the number to go with each set. The sets included zero, one, two, and three objects. I was again impressed with how focused the students were and how beautifully they wrote the numbers 0, 1, 2, and 3 (Target #3).
Because Homework Folders and Take Home Books came home today, I thought I'd include an explanation/expectation for both. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Homework:
Homework comes home every Monday (in your child's homework folder) and is due back to school on Friday (in their homework folder).
Your child should do one sentence per day and 3-4 math problems per day. The math page is NOT meant to be done in one sitting.
Take Home Book:
The take home book needs to live in the plastic envelope! Once your child has read the book, have them put it back in the plastic envelope and back into their backpack.
Everyone will bring a book home on Monday to be returned on Thursday. They will get a different book or keep their current book on Thursday to be returned on Monday. If you think your child needs a new book or to move up/down a level, please send a note in their plastic book envelope. BOOKS WILL NOT BE EXCHANGED WITHOUT A NOTE!
The Take Home Books are part of my classroom library. Please do not let your child write or color on them. They should be treated like a library book.
Important Information:
1. Homework folders went home today. Please have your child do their Monday sentence.
Again, here are the "very hard to follow, but super important for your kiddo's growth" homework rules:
#1- Do not spell anything for them,
#2 Do not write anything for them,
#3 Do not tell them they wrote something incorrectly.
You literally smile and say good job! I am so proud of you! That is perfect!
2. Take Home Books came home today! Make sure your kiddo reads their take home book at least once to you. Remember, it's very normal and developmentally appropriate for kiddos to use picture clues. Please do not cover the pictures in your child's book.
3. Please continue to help your child sell cookie dough. Remember, if your kiddo sells or receives donations, to fill out the white coupon and send it in. They will get a key chain for every 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 tubs they sell/donations they receive.
4. In the upcoming months, there are a few "non-student" days (aka, teachers have meetings and the kiddos get the day off) to be aware of. The first is 10/14. Please see the district calendar for other "non-student" days and events.
5. In your child's homework folder, there is a pink conference scheduling form.
Please look at the dates and times listed at the top of the page (Kindergarten Conference Schedule). Then, list your top three preferred dates and times on the bottom portion of the form. Please send the form back as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!
