We had a great day today!
We started our day with a "share circle," where the kiddos shared something they did over the weekend. We then went back to our seats and everyone wrote a sentence, using a capital letter at the beginning, finger space between each word, and a period at the end. In addition, we were all very careful to make our chicken, giraffe, and monkey letters correctly. Following writing, Mrs. Pittz came in to continue her lesson on social skills. These lessons are so important for the kiddos and really teach how to be a good student, but also a good friend. We then transitioned to calendar and Daily News. We are reviewing the sight words "to" and "have," so our new sentence is: "I have to...". After Daily News, we went out to recess. After recess, we moved on the math, where we continued our work with fewer than, the same as, and equal.
It's very fitting that we're talking about the word "equal" because after math, we read a VERY good book about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Our dialogue about Dr. King was so rich and I am truly proud of your kiddos. Lastly, our AM class was able to do a short free choice and our PM class had library.
Important Information:

3. We started our "Class Pals" today. The Class Pal is Clifford (AM) and Corduroy (PM). All the directions are in the binder (located in the bag). Every kiddo will have a turn with the Pal. The Pal goes home on Monday and comes back to school on Thursday. Then to a new home on Thursday and back to school again on Monday. Please be sure the Clifford and Corduroy books stay in the binder.
4. Kindergarten will be starting RAZ-Kids (an on-line reading program) and IXL (an on-line math program) this week. I will send home your child's log-in information for both programs tomorrow. Both these programs are meant to be used as tools to practice and challenge your child. They do not replace the current homework.
