ZERO THE HERO!

We started our day with a drawing activity. The students drew their self portraits. Drawing is a very developmental skill and a necessary one for kindergarten. Not only does it help students understand how their body is put together, it also helps with proportions, following directions, and their future writing skills. After drawing our portraits, we celebrated our Happy Camper and made their Happy Camper book. We then transitioned to calendar where we worked on counting, graphing, days of the week, months of the year, and understanding place value. Speaking of place value, today was our tenth day of school and we had a very special guest - ZERO THE HERO!!!!! After we moved our bundle of ten straws to the tens place, "Zero the Hero" filled the ones place for us. During math, we worked on one-to-one correspondence and counting. Finally, we ended our time together with a rhyming activity - "Hey Diddle Diddle."

Our pm kinders visited the library today and were able to check out one book. :)

Important Information:
1. Homework folders went home today. On the LEFT AT HOME side there are a few little notes about picture day and some fun prairie events. Please take the papers out and keep them at home. on the RIGHT BACK TO SCHOOL side you'll see the picture order form, WSP volunteer form, and your child's homework.
- Please return the picture order form asap. Pictures are this Friday (9/25).
- If you plan on volunteering in our classroom at all OR if you want to attend any/all of our field trips, you must fill out the WSP form and return it asap.
- The HW packet has our Daily News paper on the front. Read it with your kiddo and enjoy. The pictures are adorable! On the other side, you'll see a sentence prompt for Monday-Thursday. Your child needs to finish the sentence ON THEIR OWN each day. If they ask for help spelling a word, prompt them to say the word they're trying to spell and remind them to use their "best guess spelling."
Some rules that might be hard to stick to during writing homework.
#1- Do not spell anything for them,
#2 Do not write anything for them,
#3 Do not tell them they wrote something incorrectly.
You literally smile and say good job!  I am so proud of you!  That is perfect!  :)  I am telling you this because it is hard!

Finally, there is a math page. This page is not meant to be done all in one sitting. Please remind students to use their best handwriting and to take their time.
-Any questions, please email me!
2. Take Home Books came home today. I realize that the book that was sent home may be too easy/too hard for your kiddo. Please still have your child read the book (assist as necessary) to you. Part of this week is allowing your child time to figure out the routine. We will exchange/check in the books on Thursday. If you feel like your child needs a harder book, please just put a sticky note on the book asking for a harder book/level. If the book was just right or maybe a bit tricky for your kiddo to read, there's no need to put a note on the book; however, please send it back on Thursday. I track all the books and how long kiddos have each title, so even if they're still reading the book...it needs to be sent back in on Thursday.
3. Please continue to help your child sell cookie dough. Remember, if your kiddo sells or receives donations, to fill out the white coupon and send it in. They will get a minion key chain for every 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 tubs they sell. Again, please email with questions!
4. If you have not yet put the yellow transportation tag on your child's backpack, please do that tonight. It so helpful and important that we know how your child will be getting home.
5. If you haven't turned in all your school forms, please do so asap! Thanks!
