We started with our morning work, focusing on equations and the concept of "equal." We then transitioned to calendar. During calendar, we reviewed the letters Dd and Qq, learned three new sight words (were, if, how), and continued our focus on place value and counting. Before heading out to recess, we also did our Daily News.
When recess was over, we came in for our reading group time. During groups we focused on letter Dd, sight words, and blending. In addition, we worked on handwriting (numbers) and listening.
After groups, we went right into math. The students are picking up base ten (ten and some ones make a new number) and it's awesome to hear their thinking and problem solving skills. Using different tools, the students independently made their base ten number bonds.
During writing, we reviewed narrative writing and then began writing a narrative together. We have an exciting story started!! We will work on finishing the story this week and I'll try and remember to share it with you on Friday (let me just say, it involves snow and a kangaroo). ;)
Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, math centers, PE, snack and show and share, quiet time, recess, free choice centers, and spring concert practice!

Please continue to practice the Magic Five! If your child can do all the parts, please practice writing lowercase letters correctly, counting past 100, counting on from a number (not starting at 1), and writing all our sight words.
