Tuesday News

We had a wonderful day!

Our day started with morning work (focusing again on counting and number sense) and then we went right into our shared reading time. During shared reading, we learned all about punctuation and specifically focused on what a comma tells us when we read ("to pause"). We then transitioned to our morning message (focusing on letter Pp,  the /p/ sound, and our sight words), calendar, and Daily News.

We went outside for a sunny, but chilly recess.

After recess, we did our reading groups; where students focused on letter ID, letter sounds, main idea, picture clues, annotating text (from our shared read), handwriting, and listening.

Once groups were over, we met at the reading area to discuss our opinion writing topic for the day. After reviewing what a good opinion sentences contains, we read the questions (What do you like better - computer or iPad?).  We practiced telling our neighbors and then shared a few of our sentences. Before heading back to our table, we did our class cheer - "I am strong, I am capable, and I have no fear!" The students did a beautiful job stating their opinion, giving a reason, tapping out their sounds, and coloring their picture!

Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, library, a math lesson (taught by Ms. Morgan), 4th grade buddies, snack, show & share, quiet time, and free choice centers.
