Happy Monday!
Today we started with our morning work (focusing on capital and lower case matching, sight words, and rhyming). We then went right into our shared reading time. During shared reading, the students learned the theme for our new unit (Plants and Animals Have Needs) and then we read an informational text. Students then worked together to determine text importance, identify punctuation, and read with expression. After shared reading, we did our regular morning message, calendar, and Daily News routine (focusing on counting, place value, and our new letter - Ii and sight words - can and she).
We went outside for the first half of our recess; however, the rain really started falling, so we finished with an indoor recess.
Reading groups were filled with letter ID, letter sounds, tapping out sounds, writing the sounds, ABC books, handwriting, and listening.
After reading groups, Ms. Morgan taught our class a math lesson - all about rectangles. The students did a beautiful job listening and engaging in the lesson.
Our afternoon was filled with lunch, recess, Alpha Tales (Ii), extended read (focusing on informational text features and new facts we learned), PE, snack, show and share, and free choice centers.
