Thursday News

We had a great day!

Our targets today were:
Target #1: I can write my name.
Target #2: I can write the letters Ww and Xx.
Target #3: I can write the numbers 4 and 5.

We started our day going over our targets and learning all about the letters Ww and Xx. The students then went back to their desks to practice writing the letters (Target #1). We also spent a great deal of time talking about the Ww sound ("woo"). Most of us are use to saying, "w-u," however, that actually causes the students to add an additional sound when sounding out a word. We then interviewed our Happy Camper and made their name book. Already I can see a big improvement in student handwriting. Next, we moved on to calendar and Daily News. We are still working on counting, place value, graphing, and what a sentence needs (capital, letters of words need to touch, spaces between words, and a period at the end). The students were then able to go outside for a sunny (and warm) recess! They love to play together and it's very fun to watch! :) After recess, we came inside and worked on writing the numbers 4 and 5 (Target #3). We then transitioned to reading groups; where the students worked on letter sounds, letter formation, writing their name using only one capital letter at the beginning (Target #2), number writing, and listening (Duck on a Bike).

Important Information:
1. Homework folders are due tomorrow. Please have your child do their Thursday sentence.
Again, here are the "very hard to follow, but super important for your kiddo's growth" homework rules:
#1- Do not spell anything for them.
#2 Do not write anything for them.

#3 Do not tell them they wrote something incorrectly.

You literally smile and say good job!  I am so proud of you!  That is perfect!

2. We have P.E., music, and library tomorrow. Please help your child remember that library books are due tomorrow!

3. Please continue to help your child sell cookie dough. Remember, if your kiddo sells or receives donations, to fill out the white coupon and send it in. They will get a key chain for every 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 tubs they sell/donations they receive.

4. In the upcoming months, there are a few "non-student" days (aka, teachers have meetings and the kiddos get the day off) to be aware of. The first is 10/14. Please see the district calendar for other "non-student" days and events.

5. In your child's homework folder, there is a pink conference scheduling form.
Please look at the dates and times listed at the top of the page (Kindergarten Conference Schedule). Then, list your top three preferred dates and times on the bottom portion of the form. Please send the form back as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!

6. If you can join us for the December 8th ALL DAY field trip downtown, please email me. Please see the "More Info For Dec. Field Trip" email for details.

7. Donuts With Dad is coming up! October 6th from 8-9:00am in the Prairie View Cafeteria.
