We had a great day together!
Our day started with a initial letter sound activity. The students did a beautiful job identifying which letter they needed and writing the capital and lower case letters correctly. We then transitioned to reading groups, where the kiddos worked on decoding, identifying where the /e/ sound was in different words, the number nine, our sight word "do", and listening (Pigs to the Rescue). After groups, we attempted to go outside, but the rain started right away, so we had to have an indoor recess. :) Once recess was over (and picked up), we did our calendar and Daily News routine. We focused on punctuation and how each punctuation mark tells your reader how to read your sentence. The students then gathered at the calendar rug to listen to our anthology story (Frog and Locust). Speaking and listening is an important skill, but also, it's a very large piece of the SBA testing that starts in third grade. Lastly, we worked on addition (part, part, whole) using pictures to make our equations.
