Thursday News

We had a fun day!
We started our time together with a self evaluation. The students rated themselves on numerous kindergarten content areas, but also as a friend and in cutting and coloring. We then transitioned to reading groups where the kiddos worked on sorting by sounds, writing, sight words, letter writing, and listening. After groups, we went outside for recess. It was cold, but the kiddos still had a blast! Thank you for sending your kiddos in warm coats, hats, and gloves! When recess was over, we did our calendar and Daily News routine. After Daily News, we did math, where the kiddos learned all about solid shapes and faces. We identified cylinders, cubes, cones, and spheres and how many faces each had (cylinder=2, cube=6, cone=1, sphere=0). We ended our time with a read aloud of Simon and Molly Plus Hester and discussion of what a good friend is. After our discussion, the students wrote their sentence, A good friend... (finishing the sentence with their opinion of what a good friend does or is).

Important Information:
1. Please send your child to school with a coat!  We will still go outside even though it is getting colder!
2. Homework folders are due tomorrow (11/13)!
3. If you haven't yet done so, please call 465-7801 to schedule your child's conference ASAP!
4. DURING CONFERENCE WEEK (NOVEMBER 19-25), GRADES 1-6 HAVE HALF DAYS; HOWEVER, THE KINDERGARTEN SCHEDULE DOES NOT CHANGE. AM KINDERS GO FROM 9:10-11:45am AND PM KINDERS GO FROM 12:45-3:20pm.
5. Start thinking about whether or not you can join us for our all-day field trip on Dec. 10th. We must have one adult for every two kinders or we cannot do the trip. For safety reasons, we cannot take siblings on the trip. Please find childcare for younger kiddos, if you plan on attending.
6. Please practice the flash cards you were given at Open House with your kiddo (sight words and numbers). Daily practice for just a few minutes is better than one big chunk at once.
7. Just a reminder that the PTO and school calendars are linked on the side of the blog. All upcoming events are posted there and is a great resource.
8. We are continuing to pass out Magic 5 certificates! If a kinder was assessed today and passed one (or all) of their targets, they will get their certificate on Monday. I'm so proud of all the kiddos for working hard! Please let me know if you have any questions about the Magic 5. Even if you're child earned their certificate, please continue to practice the skills!
9. Library books are due tomorrow for AM kinders. PM library books are due Monday (11/16).
